Visit at Domaine la Barroche (02.06.2026)

A yearly visit to Domaine la Barroche with a full tasting led by Romain in the estate’s cellar. The lineup included the final Liberty 2023, several strong red Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape cuvées across multiple vintages, and impressive new whites such as the first CdP Blanc 2024 and the outstanding Pure Blanc 2024. A balanced mix of fresh releases, cellar selections, and exciting future prospects.

🍷 Visit at Domaine la Barroche (02 June 2026)

Annual Tasting with Romain – Full Lineup of Reds & Whites

This year, just like every year, I visited Domaine la Barroche together with my friend Axel. The tasting was hosted by Romain in the atmospheric cellar of the estate. We enjoyed a complete lineup of both red and white wines — including several new releases and first vintages. The tasting once again showed why Barroche remains one of the most exciting producers in Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape.

🍇 The Red Wines

Liberty 2023 – the final vintage under this name

A fruit‑driven cuvée with classic Provençal spices. Starting next year, this wine will be released under its new name: Barrock.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape – Cuvée Julien Barrot 2023

Dark ruby colour with ripe red and black fruits, strong minerality, and tannins that are still developing. A structured wine with clear ageing potential.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape – Cuvée Julien Barrot 2019

Even deeper ruby, beautifully evolved with silky, integrated tannins and a long, mineral finish. Pure elegance and harmony on the palate.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape – Cuvée Pure 2023

Made from 100% Grenache. Already showing an impressive mouthfeel with cherry, blackberry, herbs, and ground pepper. Tannins are well integrated; acidity appears later on the palate. It may close down with time — definitely worth retasting at home.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape – Cuvée Fiancée 2022

A special cuvée composed of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache. Lighter in colour, fresh acidity, and flavours of herbs, pepper, and red fruits. Distinctive and character‑driven.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape – Cuvée Mystère 2021

Produced only in 2018 and 2021. Made from 100% Mourvèdre, this is a true long‑distance runner. Currently more closed, but the structure and depth clearly indicate great potential in the coming years.

🍏 The White Wines

Barrock 2025 – Vin de France (100% Clairette)

Aromatic and tropical with notes of apricot and white peach, supported by fresh acidity and fine minerality. A fascinating new white wine from the estate.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape Blanc 2024 – first vintage

Bright colour and an impressive mouthfeel. Aromas of melon, pineapple and white flowers. Very balanced with no hard edges — an excellent debut for this cuvée.

Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape – Cuvée Pure Blanc 2024

One of the absolute masterpieces in white wine. Made from 100% Clairette and aged in barrels. Notes of honey, stone fruits and lemon zest, followed by a precise, mineral finish. A must‑have for lovers of great white Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape.
